Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day 10.15.2011

Autumn purple ash, just about at its peak of color
Although foliage color is what I associate with the month of October, as you can see here, there are a surprising number of colorful flowers to be found too!
Zagreb coreopsis
whirling butterflies
plumbago
Autumn Joy sedum
Frosty Morn sedum
Maximillian sunflower
hummingbird flower
poppy mallow
All of these plus a few asters, phlox, centranthus, rudbekia, and Russian sage all add up to a rich bounty of blooms.

Please visit Carol, at May Dreams Gardens, to see what's happening in her garden and those of other garden bloggers from around the world.

I've been trolling the Bloom Day offerings this morning, and I would conclude that everyone has a surprising number of flowers still blooming. In my case it is because of cool temps and great summer rains, in other's it's due to a late summer. Happy GBBD!

Many great views in your fall garden.

I'll say that is nice flowering! The poppy mallow is one of my favorites, and nice progression of foliage up there, as well.

Les, I fall into the late summer category. We had temps in the 80s through September, and our night time lows are still in the 40s - crazy! But it sure makes for a long blooming season. Yea!

Thank you, Commonweeder. It's always a bit tricky to take photos this time of year; somehow the camera lens just can't quite capture the beautiful autumn light!

Thanks for visiting, Nell Jean. Happy GBBD!

DD/David - poppy mallow is an incredible all season bloomer. Its rambling nature makes it a great groundcover for hot, dry areas in the garden.

Thanks,Noel - isn't the light spectacular this time of year?

Teresa, I'm lucky to live in an area that almost always has spectacular fall weather, and the flowers often linger.

Although it's not a bloom shot, the first photo of the ash and the grasses beyond really says "October" to me and makes a nice setting for the rest of the images...flowers in an autumn landscape. Happy bloomday!

Thanks, James - glad my "plan" worked!!

You really do have a lot of blooms, and they are all beautiful. I don't think I could pick a favorite. The color in the first picture is amazing! The grasses are lit up beautifully. Happy GBBD!
