You’ve all heard the phrase “right plant, right place”, but do you have the wrong plant in the wrong place? If so, then right now is the right time to transplant woody trees and shrubs. The goal is to get them to their new location before they break dormancy, so depending on the species, you may actually have 4-6 weeks to accomplish this. Plants that are the first to leaf out and/or bloom take top priority. For example, things like flowering quince, Forsythia, or members of the genus Prunus (flowering plums).
I acquired my favorite tree , Prunus armeniaca, just this way (although I used an old sheet instead of burlap). But timing is everything, so don’t delay!

PS this photo was taken last year, my apricot tree should bloom around March 18th. We'll see!
