Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day 9.15.2011

Instead of plant portraits this month, I'd like to show you the bigger picture: my September garden is lush and full of color!

View of the west border: Cerastosigma, Aster, Gaura, Oreganum and Sedum in bloom
A closer view shows how foliage plays an important role in this garden, too.
View to the east and south side of the bluegrass/clover lawn; Perovskia, Sedum, Ceratostigma, Aster and Chrysothamnus!
View across the south border, looking east: Buddleia still blooming! Sculpture by Mark Burton.
View to the "vegetable" garden: a bit of formality tames the chaos of the grass garden.
View from the patio: water lilies and water lettuce starting their slow decline.
Oh, and Lightening says "Hi!"

Thanks for visiting my garden today, and a special thanks to Carol at May Dreams Gardens for hosting this monthly extravaganza - visit her site for links to gardens all over the world!

  2. Wow!--What a beautiful September garden! I wouldn't dare show photos of the big picture now--mine is dry, brown and a little stressed looking!
Thanks for sharing-love the pond :)

  3. Thank you Rebecca and CW! We were lucky to get lots of rain this summer that helped mitigate unusually high temps. The pond is a delight year-round!

  7. Yowza! I wish my own property was 1/10 as nicely maintained as your's...never mind that it is a different place lacking that pesky water stuff. The pond is cool in and of itself! But that blue plumbago...mmmm.

  9. Thanks, David and Rose! This garden is 25+ years in the making, so there's been lots of time for tweaking!

  10. Loving those sweeping lines, which Lightening cleverly echoes with a swish of his tail!

  12. I always appreciate the bigger picture. Macros alone give you no sense of the garden, and yours is lush and lovely. That said, I am somewhat stingy with the big pictures in my garden.

  13. Robert, the "big Sweep" is my favorite for big impact in an informal setting!

Thanks, Larry - the orb you speak of is actually a terracotta pot that has a conical, rather than flat, bottom. It's a great focal point even (or better!) without plants.

Les, I so often feature the macro view on Wordless Wednesday that I wanted to change things up a bit. The lush look is created by 1. deep beds, 2. big plants and 3. lots of summer rain this year! Thanks for you comments!
