Pam, I don't know any of the back-story, or enough about bee culture to be able to make any competent statements here --- it's just a photo document. Perhaps another reader will give us some answers...
If this was cut down recently, yes, the bees will die. They need to find a new home, but they can't do that at this time of year. They need their food stores (honey) to keep themselves warm, and they won't be able to take the honey with them or forage for nectar. Sad indeed.
What does that mean for the bees who made it, Jocelyn? Can they be relocated?
